Club History

Bettws FC was formed in 1995 from the amalgamation of Bettws AFC and Bettws Athletic. Bettws AFC was formed in 1957 as Bettws Welfare and played in the Llynfi Valley, Bridgend and District League and up until 1995 the Port Talbot and District League. Bettws Athletic was formed in 1981 as Bettws Boys Club and played in the Bridgend and District League before becoming one of the founder members of the South Wales Senior League which was formed in 1990 as part of the new pyramid system formulated by the FAW.

The new Bettws FC, sponsored by Bettws Social Club, played in South Wales Senior League and a target was set of entry into the Welsh League by 2000. In 1998 the new club finished as runners-up in the South Wales Senior League. The following season was an even better one as Bettws completed the double of being crowned champions of the South Wales Senior League and winning the South Wales Intermediate Cup. Although their ambition of entering the Welsh League appeared to be thwarted when they lost in the play-off to Dinas Powys a successful appeal resulted in Bettws claiming a place in the Welsh League.

The next three seasons were golden ones for Bettws FC. After being crowned Welsh League Third Division Champions in 2000-01, a runners-up spot in the Second Division the following year saw them secure promotion to the top division of the Welsh League.

Despite initially viewing the 2002-03 season as being one of mere consolidation in the top division it turned out to the Club's best ever as they were crowned Welsh League Champions and narrowly missed out on the double when they lost to Neath in the final of the Welsh League Cup. However, this magnificent achievement came too early for Bettws to progress into the FAW Premier League owing to the limited facilities at their ground.

The 2002-03 season proved to be a watershed for Bettws FC. They lost their place in the top division of the Welsh League on the final day of the 2005-06 season and although they returned to the top division at the end of the 2007-08 campaign the end of the 2009-10 resulted in relegation once again.

After a mid table finish the following year the 2011-12 season resulted in Bettws being relegated to the Third Division. Worse was to come as at the end of the 2012-13 season the Club only remained in the Welsh League due to a late restructure of the Third Division to include 19 rather than the usual 16 teams.

Last season was another disappointing one for the club as they lost their Welsh League status. However, any hopes the Club might have had of a swift return to Welsh League football were swiftly dashed owing to the highly competitive nature of the Premier Division of the South Wales Alliance League

After dropping out of the Alliance League in 2017 the Club regained its place for the start of the 2020-21 season
