FAIRWATER FC - CLUB HISTORY
Fairwater FC were formed in 1978 but had to wait until the turn of the century for a sustained period of success when competing in the South Wales Senior League. In 2001-02 the club won the Second Division title and in 2002-03 and 2003-04 finished up as runners-up in Division I with the late, great, local manager, Dave 'Taff' Perry, at the helm
In 2007-08 and 2008-09 Fairwater won successive First Division championships but were denied promotion to the Welsh League because Poplar Park did not meet the League's criteria for admission.
Unfortunately at the end of the 2013-14 season Fairwater FC disbanded and lost their Senior League status.
The following season the committee decided to pool resources with the area's second most successful team, Pentrebane FC. The merger saw the club take the name of Fairwater FC but play in the Cardiff Combination - the league in which Pentrebane had been playing since their formation in 1993.
Since then, under the leadership of Casey Warren, we gained promotion to the Premier Division and won that division for three seasons in a row.
The club entered the South Wales FA Play-Offs in order to try and gain promotion to the South Wales Alliance League. The first try was against Maesteg Park but we narrowly lost by 3 goals to 2. The second attempt was unfortunately decided by a points per game system due to the Covid pandemic and we lost out by 0.03 points. But third time lucky we beat Church Village 3-0 and are now playing in the Second Division of the South Wales Alliance League.
