NELSON CAVALIERS - CLUB HISTORY
The club was founded in 1972 and played its football on the Park Field which is now the rugby field. The club then moved to the Welfare Ground and played there until approximately 1975 until it folded. The reasons for this decision are uncertain but are most likely to be a combination of players retiring and lack of financial backing.
In 1983 the Social Club formed a team to enter the Rhymney Valley Saturday League. the team then played mainly for the social side of football but they were a young and improving team.
At the club's AGM in 1992, John Price, who was one of the founders of the original Cavaliers, proposed to change the name of the club back to Nelson Cavaliers. The change in name changed the face of the club.
The 2017-18 season finished with Cavaliers as Champions of the TERV League. However, they failed to make it into the South Wales Alliance League as they lost in the end of season play-offs.
The 2018-19 season ended with Cavaliers finishing as runners-up in the TERV Premier Division. However, the Covid curtailed 2019-20 season saw the club being promoted to the Alliance League on PPG.
The club's first season in the Alliance League proved to be a mixture of success and disappointment but we managed to consolidate and are looking forward to the 2022-23 season which marks out 50th anniversary.
